Count Brandon Crawford’s wife as one of the many who were baffled by the Giants shortstop’s recent ejection.
During Wednesday’s game against the Padres, the 35-year-old Crawford got the boot from third base umpire Ryan Blakney, with whom he verbally volleyed over a check-swing call from earlier in the game. As footage of the on-field exchange made its way to Twitter, Crawford’s wife, Jalynne, summed up the situation with three words.
“This is laughable,” the mother of four tweeted in response to a post from the Jomboy Media account, which remarked: “Ump put his whole body into this ejection and Brandon Crawford wasn’t even looking.”
In addition to Jalynne, who has been married to Crawford since 2011, Ashley Rodón, the wife of Giants pitcher Carlos Rodón, also remarked on the ordeal.
“This is the closest thing they have to ANY accountability at all….and they throw him out. Laughable,” Ashley tweeted Wednesday.
Crawford addressed the incident following the Giants’ 5-4 loss to the Padres, which dropped them to 61-68 on the season.
“I was surprised how quick it happened,” Crawford said, according to The Mercury News. “Basically, I wanted to talk to him about the check swing call. I obviously didn’t agree with it. I brought up a (strike) call from last night that he didn’t want to talk about and I still wanted to. … He said we’re not talking about it. I basically said why not, in so many words.”
Wednesday’s ejection marked the third of Crawford’s career, with the first taking place in 2012, and the second unfolding six years later, per NBC Sports.
Crawford and the Giants will host the Phillies to open a three-game series beginning Friday.
