Tyra Banks has been getting a lot of backlash for her past on America’s Next Top Model! While at the time, some of the things she did and said were not considered that bad in society’s eyes, to a much more progressive and aware 2020 world, the resurfaced videos look like she was really crossing all the lines!
Now, the host and former supermodel is addressing the criticism she’s been getting!
During an interview for ET, Tyra opened up about the controversial videos taken from the earlier seasons of the modeling competition.
One that has been getting a lot of attention shows Tyra asking Dani Evans, who would eventually go to win the sixth cycle of the show, if she really thought she could ‘have a CoverGirl contract with a gap in your mouth? It’s not marketable.’
Another clip largely criticized shows her encouraging some of the models to darken their skins for a photoshoot.
About this second instance, she told ET that ‘Yes, I apologized for that. Because we put it out there and even me watching it after, I was just like, ‘Oh, this is not right.’ We felt like our skin’s beautiful, so let’s paint the world our color. And then when we saw it, we were like, ‘Oh no, this excuses other people to do this in a negative way.’ We realized that, and I went on the talk show and did an entire segment on what we did. What we did was wrong, and we apologized for it.’
‘But not everybody saw that. There’s a whole new generation of people that didn’t grow up with my show and didn’t see that,’ she went on to say.

As for the clip where she shames Evans’ looks, she admitted that even she, watching it ‘through the eyes of today,’ cringes.
