With ‘Work’ spending its ninth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, Rihanna has now broken The Beatles’ record for the total number of weeks spent at number one.
Since the start of her music career, Rihanna has amassed a whopping 60 weeks at number one, compared to the 59 weeks The Beatles have spent at the top of the US charts. Rihanna’s 60 weeks at number one are made up of 14 songs, both as a lead and featured artist, with her 2011 hit ‘We Found Love’ (featuring Calvin Harris) spending 10 of those weeks at the top. She recently performed this song at Coachella alongside the Scottish DJ.
Rihanna is now second on the list of all-time chart toppers, although she has a while to go before she surpasses Mariah Carey, who has racked up 79 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Mariah’s time spent at number one is also made up of songs as a lead and featured artist. ‘One Sweet Day’, her duet with Boyz II Men, racked up 16 weeks at the top spot, whilst her most successful solo offering ‘We Belong Together’ topped the chart for 14 weeks.
