Prince William Reportedly "Flies Off the Handle" When Anyone Criticizes Kate Middleton

While they may look like the picture of perfection when they're in front of the cameras, sources close to the Cambridges explained to The Daily Mail that Prince William actually does get mad sometimes — and that undue criticism of his wife Kate Middleton is something that always sets him off. Ahead of Middleton's 40th birthday, a new report describes certain situations where William "flies off the handle," including any instances where people dismiss Kate or patronize her.

"He flies off the handle at any sign of Kate being patronized and stamps that out very quickly. It's one of his triggers," a source said. "Over the years, many people have come up with great ideas for her, but if they are put across in a dismissive way, they've got pretty short shrift from him."

Rebecca Priestley, Kate's former private secretary, said that Kate is passionate about her causes and philanthropy, saying that she really cares and isn't doing things just because she has to.

"Catherine had clearly put a lot of thought into it and made very clear that, for her, it was about listening and learning," Priestley said.

More sources note that William has been happy to help out, letting Kate choose causes that resonate with her and that they work on things together.

"He's encouraged her to do things gradually, saying: 'This is for you to work out how you want to do it.,'" an additional source said. "He may not shout from the rooftops about equality, but theirs is a true partnership."

It's a far cry from the stuffy and staid ways things seem to be done with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth — and it seems to be something young royals fans appreciate.

Royal expert Kent Gavin explained it's a fresh approach to the monarchy, saying, "Kate and William are totally different and operate in a totally different way. They're great. It's the best thing the Royal Family could have."
