In a tragic turn of events, a young man, who had celebrated his birthday a day prior, met with an unfortunate accident that claimed his life. Overcome with immense grief, his best buddy recounted the last exchange they had before everything changed.

Walker Allen Fielder, originally from Madison, Mississippi, was loved by his parents, Allison and Allen Fielder, and his adorable younger sister, Abby.

Born on October 15, 2001, he graduated from Jackson Academy in 2020 and was a respected member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, where he was a Rush Chairman. His family and friends described him as a loving, caring, and compassionate soul.

A Lovely Soul

The young man was deeply loved and valued, and his amiable nature captivated people's hearts. Walker's loved ones said he had a warm and contagious smile and a personality that made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

The young man is preceded in death by his two brothers and grandfather.

The Mississippi youngster's family noted that their son always saw the best in people and had a heart of gold. They said their boy was full-of-life, extraordinarily loyal and determined, and looked forward to achieving his goals and dreams.

When Tragedy Struck

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, Walker, a junior at the University of Mississippi, celebrated his 21st birthday surrounded by his dear ones. Little did he know what awaited him around the corner.

Several hours later, he and his friend, Blanche Williamson, 20, were celebrating an Ole Miss. football game victory in downtown Oxford, Mississippi, when the unimaginable happened. The two youngsters were reportedly hit by a truck in the parking lot behind Oxford City Hall.

According to the police, the two students suffered severe injuries in the hit-and-run early morning on Sunday, October 16. Sadly, Walker succumbed to his wounds and died on the scene, while Williamson was air-flighted to a hospital in Memphis in critical condition.

Remembering the Young Man

In addition to the football victory, Walker was celebrating his birthday when the gut-wrenching incident occurred. Two people were said to be arrested as part of the investigation.

Per the local authorities, Seth Rokitka, 24, and Tristan Holland, 18, were taken into custody. Both hailed from Collierville, Tennessee. The Oxford Police confirmed that the accident was completely random and there was no link between the suspects and victims.

Barry Burks, Walker's family friend and mentor, said the Fielder family was reeling with indescribable pain and trauma. He said he had known Walker since childhood and mentored him for seven years in their disciple group.

He described the young man as a beautiful soul and said he was studying finance at university. Burks also stated:

"[Walker] had a full life ahead of him and he was full of life, and so, just to [have your life] cut short, it doesn't get any more tragic than that."

Always Smiling

Burks shared that he and Walker attended church together in Jackson. Moreover, he requested people to lift the late youngster's family in prayers during a difficult time when they were "completely overwhelmed with grief and sadness."

Williamson, a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member from Raleigh, North Carolina, and a sophomore, survived the horrific incident. Her family issued a statement where they shared condolences with Walker's family and said their daughter was expected to make a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Walker's loved ones continue to struggle with the heartbreaking news of his death. Alex Summerford, his childhood friend, said he was someone he had looked up to since they were kids. He added:

"[Walker] always had a smile on his face. Just truly one of the nicest guys I know."

Gone but Never Forgotten

The Sigma Chi International Fraternity and Ole Miss. Chancellor Glenn Boyce expressed sheer sadness and grief on the sudden and tragic loss of one of their beloved students.

According to an online obituary, Walker's funeral was held on Wednesday, October 19, in Jackson, Mississippi. The young man is preceded in death by his two brothers and grandfather. Per the information on the site:

"He touched so many lives in his 21 years and was blessed with amazing friends who would constantly describe him as 'Tha Best' and 'Tha Man.' Walker's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him."

Their Last Conversation

Walker's lifelong friend, Nelson Thomas, said he was broken to lose a brother and a best buddy with whom he shared a treasure trove of memories. Thomas said he and Walker did everything together and loved embarking on adventures and weekend getaways. He confessed:

"[Walker] was just that special. We didn't deserve him. I didn't deserve him. None of us did."

Thomas said he last saw Walker on his 21st birthday celebration, adding, "The last conversation I had with him was telling him I loved him, happy birthday, and I'll see you on Friday."

What an incalculable and heart-wrenching loss! We send our sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers to the late youngster's family and friends. Rest in eternal peace, young man.
