Bahamón does Pilates and yoga plus electrostimulation sessions to stay toned and fit. "I do Pilates three times a week, combined with yoga," she says. "I also connect a passive exercise machine that 'electrocutes' me. [Husband] Simón always says that I look electrocuted all day."
Bahamón tries to follow a balanced diet with the occasional treat. "I don't diet but I do take care of myself," she says. "I don't know how those girls who say 'no, I don't diet' do it. However, I give in to my tastes too, I [love] super sweet. And as a good Colombian I love flour. The day I eat my [treat], the next day I take care of myself more than necessary."
Bahamón took exercise seriously after having a baby, realizing how important it was for her health and fitness. "I am a person who, before being pregnant, never exercised in my life, because it made me sleepy," she says. "I felt that instead of giving me energy, it took it away. But after giving birth, you realize you need it and start."
Bahamón meditates every day as part of her wellness routine. Regular meditation is known to have both physical and mental health benefits. "True, it will help you lower your blood pressure, but so much more: it can help your creativity, your intuition, your connection with your inner self," says Burke Lennihan, a registered nurse who teaches meditation at the Harvard University Center for Wellness.
Bahamón limits the meat she eats for environmental reasons. "I'm a 'reducetarian': I feel committed to eating less meat," she says. "Especially red meat and poultry, as well as less dairy products and fewer eggs. It is an attractive concept because not everyone is able to completely eliminate animal products from their diets. What is prohibited in my diet is cow meat. If I sometimes eat a sausage, I make sure it is nitrate and nitrite-free."
