Charmian Carr was an American actress and singer. She was known for her role as the eldest Von Trapp daughter Liesl in the film The Sound of Music.
Charmian was the daughter of vaudeville actress Rita K. Oehmen and musician Brian Felix Joseph/James Farnon. Her father was born in Toronto, and was of Northern Irish, English, and Scottish descent. Her mother was of German and Irish ancestry. Her sisters, Shannon Farnon and Darleen Carr, are also known actresses. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, when she was ten.
Charmian had two children with her former husband, dentist Jay Brent.
