Tenoch Huerta will officially appear as Namor in Black Panther 2, but the man recently revealed that he lied about a crucial element to be cast.
You know that saying “fake it till you make it?” It’s great advice for getting that job that you’re just a little underqualified for and you know you can just learn those skills once you’re on board. Well, apparently actors employ this advice as well, as Black Panther 2 actor Tenoch Huerta didn’t know how to swim when he was cast as the literal king of Atlantis, Namor the Submariner.
Of course, Tenoch Huerta dove (literally) into swimming lessons before Black Panther 2 started filming and he was ready to go. Speaking to Life and Style, Huerta said “They asked me if I knew how to swim,” he said. “I replied that I had never drowned and went back to my managers.” Fortunately, swimming is definitely a skill that can be learned at just about any age and that’s exactly what Huerta did. Now he’s fully ready to take on Wakanda as the sometimes-antagonistic Atlantean ruler.
Tenoch Huerta’s role as Namor the Submarine in Black Panther 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated aspects of the film. Namor is a character that fans have long wanted to be part of the MCU. However, the rights to the character have been a bit complex. Fortunately, it looks like Marvel has figured out a way to integrate the character into their web of films, and we should definitely see Namor factoring into the future of the Marvel film stories.
While Namor is certainly one aspect of Black Panther 2 that fans are excited about, fans are also waiting on pins and needles to see who will take on the mantle of the Black Panther. After the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, there will need to be a new hero suiting up in the iconic outfit. Based on the trailer, it seems like Boseman’s T’challa will have passed away in the MCU as well, so there is sure to be a fitting tribute to T’Challa, and by extension Boseman, during the film.
Another major character that won’t be appearing in Black Panther 2 is Daniel Kaluuya’s W’Kabi, who led security for Wakanda’s Border Tribe and who was a best friend of T’Challa. In Black Panther, W’Kabi ended up betraying his long-time friend to side with Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger. It would have been interesting to see how T’Challa’s death weighed on W’Kabi after betraying him, but unfortunately, Kaluuya’s Nope filming schedule conflicted with filming for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The good news is plenty of fan-favorite characters will be returning to Black Panther 2. Crucially, Ryan Coogler returns to direct the film. Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Winston Duke all reprise their roles, and they seem like the likeliest candidates to take on the Black Panther mantle. Of course, that remains to be seen. Black Panther 2 will also introduce Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, another anticipated hero introduction fans have been looking forward to. You can find out all of the mysteries surrounding Black Panther 2 and meet Ironheart and Namor when the movie hits theaters on November 11.
