Who is Netta?

Netta Barzilai, or better known simply by just her first name, is an Israeli singer who is taking the Eurovision world by storm with her interesting entry, ‘Toy’. Barzilai was born in the Hod HaSharon area of Israel where she still lives currently. At an early age, she moved with her family to Nigeria where she resided for four years and eventually returned to home country of Israel. Prior to her mandatory enlistment to the Israeli Defense Forces, she spent a Service Year volunteering in the Nahal and did her military service in the Israeli Navy Band.

Barzilai gained a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 when she won season five of Israel’s TV singing competition, HaKokhav HaBa (The Next Star). Throughout the competition, she wowed the public and judges by performing covers of Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’, Kesha’s ‘Tik Tok’ and Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’. By winning HaKokhav HaBa, this meant Barzilai would represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 by default.
